Subprojects, Master Schedules, and Programs
Subprojects under a master
Large jobs often split into separate schedules per building, phase, or trade package that roll up into one master.
Create a subproject:
- On the home page, click + Sub on the master's row, or choose the master under Master parent when creating a project.
- Or open the master, go to More views… → Subprojects, enter a New subproject name, and click Add subproject.
Move an existing project under a master with the Move under… dropdown on its row on the home page. Choose Detach (top-level) to make it standalone again.
The Subprojects view shows a rollup of the whole tree (projects, activities, critical count, start, finish, and cross-project links) and a card for each child with Open. Click Recompute master to refresh the rollup after changes.
A subproject shows a banner "Subproject of master" with Open master. Trees can be up to 8 levels deep.
Programs
A program groups related projects, like a national rollout or a campus, for portfolio reporting.
- On the home page, under Programs, enter a name and click Create program.
- Open it and add projects by ID on the Projects tab, or create new ones there.
Program tabs:
| Tab | Shows |
|---|---|
| Dashboard | Target finish, and each project's health, SPI, and CPI, with a rollup |
| Timeline | All projects on one timeline |
| Projects | Member projects |
| Resources | Pooled resources, conflict days, and peak load across projects |
| Links | Dependencies between activities in different projects |
Health is red when SPI or CPI is below 0.85 or the finish is past target, amber when either is below 0.95 or the finish is within 7 days of target, and green otherwise.
Cross-project links
On a program's Links tab, choose a Predecessor in one project, a Successor in another, the type, and the Lag (days), then click Link. Use Recompute CPM to recalculate all linked projects together. Links that would create a loop across projects are refused.
